Dont Sweat The Little Things

A wise man once told me,

"In life, it is not that we do not measure up to our goals. It is just that we are not ready to achieve them even when we think it is time. It is merely life testing us to see if we have the strength to push on. Adversity is just another class we have to take."

Indianapolis, Indiana

I am leaving for Indianapolis, Indiana in approximately seven hours and this will be my last post before I board the bus for a ten hour journey. My team and I will be there till Sunday night and hopefully get back around Monday morning. It just so happens that my birthday is this Saturday as well! So send your birthday thoughts down south and be back soon.

Letters From The Past (I)

Dearest Colette of the future,

I want you to know a couple of things:
  1. That bucket list of yours is saved under Documents-Noteworthy Projects-"The Bucket List."
  2. You should really get around to erasing that calendar from 2009.
  3. Be careful of men a significant number of years older than you. You know who I'm talking about.
  4. You saved those two fish of yours from animal cruelty.
  5. That foundation you ran out of is called L'Oreal Paris Bare Naturale General Mineral Makeup Buff Beige 466.
  6. He liked you and never never did a thing about it.
  7. Erase your texts.
  8. You've been to Florida five times.
  9. You survived Y2K, Bird Flu, Mad Cow Disease, 9/11 and Swine Flue. You are pretty much invincible.
  10. You're not perfect, but the closest thing to it.
I hope you read this letter and remember all the great times you had and other such things. One last thing I'd like to add is this: chasing boys is stupid - in time, they'll be long gone and you'll forget where you came from.

Your Self,
Colette

New Years Resolution

Have no regrets.

Or rather let there be no chance of regrets in the future.
If you want to do something, get it done.
If you want to say something, say it.
If you want answers, ask questions.

Because if you don't,
in fifty years, you'll look back and wish you'd done or said those things when you were young.

Let there be no second-guessing, no looking back, no giving up half-way there.

Act now, or forever hold your peace.

Rules To Live By (I)

1. Do not keep a knife on the floor of the back seat of a taxi cab. It is not good for business.

2. When playing a gentlemen's game, be honest - admit to your mistakes, follow the rules, don't judge.

3. Always give customers their reciept. If you drive away without having done so, do not expect them to pay.

A Partially True Story

"I think Mohammed likes me."
"He talks without moving his lips..."
"What the hell? What?"
"When he talks, his lips don't move. Watch him next time."
"Okay...? He keeps talking to me."
"Because he loves you."
"Like Konrad loves you?"
"He does love me. We're engaged - surprise!"

We mustn't want it all.

It's cold out. The snow has finally begun to fall, drift, surround us. But below it's deceitfully soft, silky surface lies unsighted a layer of solid ice. Anything but harmless, it waits immobile - a predator to uncautious wanderers of the road. Teeth chatter, fingers and toes are deprived of feeling, the mind thinks of nothing but home. It is in this state that we labourously trudge onward through the ever-growing heaps of snow toward warmth, protection, shelter. And when at last, what was simply a fantasy becomes reality before our very eyes, we will reminisce of the soft, silky snowflakes, of the comforting blanket upon us.
